10U Fastpitch Team Aces are Tournament Champs

10U Championship Game Summary:

Warrior-like pitching and timely hitting were the main stories in the Dearborn Aces’ 10-8 victory.  Starting pitcher Victoria Lamb recorded some big strikeouts and battled through some base traffic and close calls to hold Lincoln Park to 5 runs over 2 innings.

In the Aces’ 3 offensive innings, big hits and RBI by Sofia Ramirez (HR), Izzy Watts (triple), and Victoria Lamb (double) provided the main power, while patient at-bats from up and down the lineup (including yet another hit-by-pitch from “softball magnet,” Maya Tocco-Coleman) drew several walks and moved runners into scoring position.  In all, the Aces pushed across 10 runs, providing a critical 5-run lead going into the last half-inning.

Sofia Ramirez pitched the last inning, recording two quick strikeouts.  Then, from out of nowhere, a cold wind began blasting through, making conditions miserable for the Aces, but seemingly waking up the Lincoln Park offense, who plated 3 runs with some well-placed hits with runners on base.  But defense and pitching sealed the deal.  Izzy Watts (who caught all three innings) handled several wind-blown pitches to keep runners from advancing, and Jenna Ghazi made a huge play getting her glove and body on a line drive, holding to a single what otherwise looked like big trouble.  From there, Ramirez closed it out with a clutch strikeout on a lazer on the outside corner.

The girls poured in from all over the filed, mobbing Ramirez with smiles and tears of joy.  And from then until the end of the trophy-hoisting and jubilant picture-posing, no one noticed the arctic breeze whipping through the October sky.  Fall Ball championships will do that for you.
